What we've been learning about...

Constable Care Excursion
On Wednesday 3rd April and Thursday 4th April, the Pre-primary students went on excursion to the Constable Care Safety School.  The Pre-primary Health program focusses on educating our students about Road, Passenger and Pedestrian Safety.  Through visiting the Constable Care Safety School the students had the opportunity to engage in the realistic urban environment and apply their knowledge in a safe way.

The space provides educators with supports to teach students about road hazards and safety skills in a life-like setting.  The students took turns to be pedestrians and cyclists.  The space included a railway crossing, a train station, traffic lights, traffic signs, a bus stop, footpaths and roads, pedestrian crossings and community buildings.

A key message that we learnt was STOP, LOOK, LISTEN, THINK.  The 4 things to do before crossing the road.

The Safety School runs holiday sessions for families too.  For more you can information visit their website at https://www.cccsf.org.au/about-us/

The experience was fun, educational and memorable!  We had a great time and I’m sure the students will talk about it fondly.

ANZAC Ceremony
We will commemorate ANZAC Day with a service on Thursday 11th April.  The service will be held at 8.45am by the flag poles.  It is a day for us to remember the services of those who fought in the First World War.  ANZAC Day is an important occasion acknowledging a significant event in our nation’s history.
The students will be making a wreath to lay during the service.  We are asking the students to bring a flower on Wednesday 10th April for our wreath which will be made with our buddy class.

Easter
We hope everyone has a lovely break and has the opportunity to share some quality family time together.  Easter is a perfect topic for integrating a  range of learning areas and it became a fun and exciting theme for our activities, especially in Mathematics.  We have done Easter egg sorting and graphing, measuring and patterns as well as directed drawings and writing.

Parent Interviews
Parent meetings will be held on Tuesday 9th April.  It is a great opportunity to make connections between home and school, to inform you of your child’s progress and to determine goals for future growth.
During the interview, you will also receive a Parent Summary of your child’s achievement from the On Entry Assessment which was conducted earlier this term.

We appreciate your support in accommodating to our timetable.  At Wattle Grove Primary, we place a high value on early childhood education and preparing our young students with strong foundation skills and readiness for future schooling.
Throughout the holidays we encourage you to continue revising fundamental skills with your child to help sustain their learning.  Here are some key skills we have focused on this term:

· Numbers and collections to 10

· Numbers before, after and in between

· Patterns

· Upper and lower case alphabet sounds

· Beginning sounds

· Syllables (beats in the words e.g.  el / e / phant)

· Rhyming words

· Seasons and the weather
As the school holidays are quickly approaching, I’d like wish everyone a happy and safe holiday.

Thank you to you and the children for a productive first term.  We look forward to seeing everyone for Term 2 on Monday 29th April.
